It operates on minute electrical pulses firing millions/billions of times every second. It multi-tasks to accomplish many things seemingly at once. Interrupt these processes, and it can fail or die a horrible death. It is essential to our way of life and survival. Over-heat it…it dies. Over-cool it..it dies. Take it within an extremely harsh environment…it will fail and die. When many are put together…all working in unison, incredible things can happen. Or terrible things. What is it? It is our minds…and our computers. They are SO close in operation and purpose to each other that it seems as if they were destined to be tied together, linked, and made and meant to become “one”. They WILL be “one” someday and there will be many people not ready for it or able to handle it. Reality and this new mind/cyberspace union will be too overpowering for some to tell the difference…if there WILL be a difference. Computing power not only increases constantly, the RATE/SPEED of increase increases. So change itself happens quicker to make this closer to “reality”…whatever that will mean when this happens. Some have named it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity Of course the movie “The Matrix’ comes to mind, and much can be found about human micro-chip implants. We already contain silicon in our bodies and they are already etching circuitry onto laboratory proteins…so just add mass high-speed circuitry and tons of petabytes of memory to it and let’s ”jack-in”. Yea I am simplifying it, but you get the idea. Is it dependant on our very survival? Or will it be the destruction of our survival like “War Of The Worlds” with the machines deciding we are a failed species that daily rapes Mother Earth, taking and never giving back, and we are not needed and are just stupid, clueless, apathetic globs of dying useless goo? Maybe. According to some that believe the outer reaches of the above link…this IS essential for us to survive…if only in the machine. Sign me up now.

This reminds me of the birthday present I once asked for. My parents gave me a bicycle instead.
I await for the day the Singularity occurs and technology speeds up. We already rely on machinery for almost everything, why not become those very machines?
That gives me a lot to think about.
Yep…some of it good…some of it bad.
